The 2023 World Baseball Classic moves into the knockout rounds as Team USA finished last in the Quarterfinals field on Wednesday night. The Americans beat Colombia to finish second in Group C and have a date with Venezuela in the quarterfinals. Puerto Rico was also a big winner on Wednesday night, but the team’s win over the Dominican Republic came at a cost closer Edwin Díaz injured his knee during the celebration on the pitch. Japan, Cuba, Italy, Australia, Venezuela and Mexico complete the quarter-final field, and Wednesday morning’s knockout stages began with Cuba’s victory over Australia.
With a field down to eight teams, it’s a single-elimination bracket-style tournament with the championship game scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 in Miami.
