Team USA is through to the semifinals of the 2023 World Baseball Classic after edging out Venezuela in exciting fashion on Saturday night. The United States won the quarterfinals game 9-7 when Trea Turner scored a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning. The USA meet Cuba in the semifinals on Sunday for a spot in Tuesday’s league game. Japan and Mexico will face off in the other semi-final on Monday in Miami.
This version of the WBC was originally scheduled to be played in 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The action started on Wednesday, March 8 (the 2023 WBC Taiwan opener’s technically first pitch was on March 7 at 11:00pm ET) and there will be 47 games in total.
