The 2023 World Baseball Classic is underway and Team USA is attempting to defend its title in a competitive field. Team USA rallied to beat Canada on Monday after suffering a one-sided loss to Mexico on Sunday. The Americans have Tuesday off but can secure a spot in the quarter-finals on Wednesday if they complete Group C against Colombia. WBC history was made in Pool D on Monday. Puerto Rico threw a perfect eight-inning game against Israel, with four pitchers coming together for the first perfect game of the World Baseball Classic.
Four teams have secured their tickets for the Quarterfinals: Japan, Cuba, Italy and Australia. The quarter-finals begin on Wednesday with Cuba versus Australia. Once the quarterfinals are settled, it will be a single-elimination bracket style tournament with the championship game scheduled for Tuesday, March 21st in Miami.
