Team USA will defend its World Baseball Classic at the 2023 version of the event this week, six years after it first won the international baseball crown. Mike Trout, Trea Turner, Mookie Betts, Nolan Arenado and Adam Wainwright are in the star-studded roster as USA Baseball played its first game of the competition on March 11 in Phoenix, defeating Great Britain 6-2. Mark DeRosa, who has played 16 seasons in the majors, will lead the club.
Team USA plays Great Britain, Mexico, Canada and Colombia in Pool C and can advance to the Quarterfinals with a place in the top two in the group. The journey begins at Chase Field in Arizona and ends at LoanDepot Park in Miami as Team USA progress to the Quarterfinals and beyond.
Team USA has the second best chance of winning the 2023 World Baseball Classic, behind only the Dominican Republic, according to Caesars Sportsbook. The US defeated Puerto Rico to win the 2017 championship.
